A former University of Oklahoma student and active duty sailor in the United States Navy has been extradited from his deployment in Japan to faces criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing two pre-teen boys. Brock Mason, 24, was booked into the Cleveland County jail on $750,000 bond after being accused of molesting the twin sons of a woman he befriended while living in Norman. He faces 11 felony counts related to the alleged sex abuse.

Tip Leads to Child Sex Abuse Charges for Oklahoma Man

According to Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn, investigators became aware of possible sex crimes committed by Mason after the Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) received a tip from a cyber line that Mason had downloaded child pornography.

An investigation into Mason's online activities allegedly revealed concerning Facebook communications between the man and children in Norman. Investigators say that after the suspect became friends with the mother of the boys, he began sexually abusing them, having them commit sex acts in exchange for cash and gifts. He is also accused of providing the boys with drugs and pornography.

According to a court records search, Mason has been charged with the following sex offenses:

  • 6 counts of Lewd Molestation/Indecent Proposal to a Child, in violation of 21 O.S. 1123
  • 2 counts of Forcible Sodomy, in violation of 21 O.S. 888
  • 2 counts of Soliciting Sexual Conduct or Communication with a Minor by Use of Technology, in violation of 21 O.S. 1040.13a
  • 1 count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, in violation of 21 O.S. 856

Lewd Acts Penalties

Each count of Lewd or Indecent Proposals or Acts to a Child Under 16 is punishable by 3 to 20 years in prison, unless the victims are under the age of 12. If the victims are aged 11 or younger, each offense is punishable by 25 years to life in prison.

Each count of Soliciting Sexual Conduct or Communication with Minor by use of Technology, or online solicitation of a minor, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Find out more about computer sex crimes here. Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor may be charged as a misdemeanor or felony depending upon the act that is encouraged or facilitated.

Assisting a minor in violating any provision of the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act is a felony punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $200,000.

Prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing, and they are looking to find out if there are more potential victims in Oklahoma or other locations. Whether or not he is charged with additional crimes, with 11 serious felony counts against him, Brock Mason faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
